Poor clue, in my opinion. It's all reversed. The "workplace" turns up elsewhere in the puzzle.

17a parses .... L (left) 3 letter word for scientific workplace , 3 letter word for XI less one .... all reversed

I'm still struggling, witheight more to solve. Any hints for 23ac Disposal of loot won't start without Irish - 150 going round. I have ???I?????G

Quite a good one. Two letter abbreviation for Irish and Roman 150 in a word for "disposal of loot", missing first letter; definition "going round"
