Can some nice person help me with 23d ? I have ?s?n?s? Are these letters correct ,.... if so what is the answer please ? ;o) I have only attempted a few of The Spectator Crosswords, and find them quite difficult ! :-) lol

Is this a closed shop Silly Boy, or are there clues on offer?

My apologies Iris. I was addressing it to the people who were actually doing this crossword, as it would take a while to explain the format. This is a kind of un-clued answer. Sorry, didn't mean to exclude those who are not doing it. ;o)

Hi silly boy - i have garnish for 23d - goes with the extra word from 18a - trim. Change the n for an f to give "one of the 8 "

Thanks sudokulover. I think I've finished !!!! But need to check out the 8 clues and the clued light to shade ! lol ;o)

Well, four hours late but (I think) everything solved EXCEPT 42A. I've ?al?o? and can't identify the extra word which defines this answer. Hope I'm right in deducing that the 'o' is the misprinted letter based on the shaded light.
