sudokulover's 2d brings me back to the 4d 17a problem -- duplicates. Perhaps I have 18a wrong.
Thought I had the Kettle sorted out, but when I fix one letter I get another duplicate. No wonder I hate bouillabaisse.

Thanks Zardoz, got those two now - I was thinking of another meaning of novel! Still need 42a and 4d and don't know which "extra" words they are connected to

4d and 17 ac are not the same, Zardov - just the first two letters. For 4 d the superfluous word is in 19 d - at least, that's what I've made it.
