Elle, it is terrible!
Why Paris?
First Charlie Hebdo and now this!
Heartbreaking!

Rusty, I fear that this may be the beginning of further attacks on other big cities?
We are all vulnerable to this sort of terrorism.

Good morning, Elle.
I think you are probably correct.
Awful to think of further attacks, but I think they will happen.

Anyway... doggie will not miss the lampshade!
It is dry here. I think it was a weakened version of Abigail who landed here,
Barney next!

Hi, Rusty!
Dreich here! Not a very nice day at all - it is decidedly chilly out!
And the rain is apparently with us till six this evening!
I shall not venture out again till early afternoon, when the dog is due for her second walk.

Although, if there is an appropriate window of "dryness," we shall plant the bulbs whilst the ground is soft as a result of the rain.
There is always a "silver lining"!

I was reading the "Spectator" headlines about the next storm being a transgender one?
Seemingly, if 'Barney' does make it as far as the UK, 'he' will have started out as a 'she' - ex-hurricane , 'Kate'!
Whatever next?

Good Morning all,

and what a sad one it is ! I just listened to President Holland's speech and to the latest numbers of victims so far;
127 dead, over 100 dangerously injured and 80 odd other people less injured (but there might be internal damage that will only show up later!)

We are now in for 3 day of National Mourning, some pubic venues closed such as the Opera, the Quay d'Orsay Museum (where Impressionists paintings are plus exhibitions) and others places as well, all sport and concerts cancelled, reduced metro (tube) lines, some stations closed altogether and the army pacing up and down Paris everywhere, almost a state of siege !

Just dreadful and there is so little we can do to avoid all this - Every country is vulnerable when faced up with terrorism.

I can only add my sympathy to all those affected, and to all the people of France.

Good morning, Pigale,
As you say, a very sad day indeed.
We add our sympathy to all those affected and to all the French people.
One's immediate reaction is to think where one's nearest and dearest and close friends might be in relation to any disaster.......
our French friends do not live anywhere near Paris, nor can I think of any reason why they might be in the vicinity, but we shall be glad when we have heard from all of them.

~Rusty, Elle and Chrise,

On behalf of the French people and the victims and their family, I thank you for your messages of sympathy.

Unfortunately the number of deaths is increasing as some of the injured people are/were in a very serious conditions. The latest information is that just about every public building/school etc should remain closed until Thursday, even Versailles !

We are also advised not to assemble in groups (in Paris and vicinity) as people usually do as a tribute to the victims and to show their sympathy (deposit flowers etc...); well, we are strongly advised not to do that; I doubt very much that the terrorists would launch another series of attacks in the same city now since it is so heavily under surveillance - but better be safe than sorry - and yet it is a need that we all feel, to be with our fellow country men and show that we all belong to the same Nation - I can understand it and might pop down the village this afternoon for that very reason.

Other than that, I hope your weather (specially on the West Coast) is not too fierce.

Pigale, you have been given very good advice, but I would do as you plan to. Go to the village and meet up with your neighbours etc.
I think you would all benefit from that.
It was a dreadful thing that happened. Let us hope that some form of normality returns to the streets of Paris, soon.
Stay strong!
