Hi Elle,

How are you today? Are you watching any sport?
Is your husband a football fan, taking an interest in the World Cup?
I don't particularly, except perhaps the final, and of course particularly so if France is involved! but apparently there is not
much hope this year's !

I have just had a look in on the osprey site and it does sound wild
out there! I don't know if Laddie has performed, but neither
Lassie nor the chicks seem to be crying for food.
I would imagine that should they be really desperate, Lassie could
go fishing herself? I know she won't leave the nest unattended
for any long period, but she did go off for a while every now and
then, even when Laddie did not replace her.
Surely to feed both herself and her chicks?
No more messages from the rangers today.

Hello, Pigale!
It has been a lovely day here - fresher than of late, so pleasanter for me personally.
I have been sat out in the garden this afternoon, reading.
A leisurely day!
No, no sport for me...I am waiting eagerly for Wimbledon!
Yes, my husband does like football.....although not fanatically.
He is not very keen on watching television.
I too looked in on Lassie.. it was very, very windy...but Lassie was sat firmly on top of the chicks, so hopefully they would be warm enough!
No sign of Laddie though!

My goodness, it is quiet on here without Rusty.
I hadn't realised that he intended to be away as long as this......
I hope all is well with him and his.
It will be good when he returns......

It is quiet altogether on the Forum. I expect Rusty is away visiting, like last time when he didn't post on here. He'll be back.....

My son and daughter-in-law were on Question Time (in the audience) last night. They didn't use her question, though.

I have loads of babysitting to do this weekend - all three days! Not that they are babies any more. My granddaughter has her first dancing exam. 5 mins!

I hope Laddie has brought some fish but can see no evidence of it

Hi Elle and Rosalind,

I sent a message to the rangers yesterday voicing my concern
about what appeared as lack of food for Lassie and family.
This is Emma's reply received today

Please do not worry about the frequency of which the osprey chicks are being fed. LM12 and LF15 are superb parents and they are doing a great job at feeding the chicks.

If the chicks and LF15 are quiet then it means that they are fed and satisfied. LM12 has been bringing in fish every day, admittedly it did seem like there was a day where he only brought 1 in a 24 hour period but the daylight hours are so long he can fish at 4am and we wouldn’t know it.

LF15 won’t leave the nest long enough to fish for herself until the chicks have fledged in about a months’ time.

I hope that reassures you.

Kind regards

Emma

Obviously, I personally would not see anything at 4am!
Had a look at them and they seem sleepy and Lassie is not screaming for Laddie. So hopefully...

Elle,
It is indeed weird not to see Rusty's comments on the PCT, but he
did say that he had things to do - perhaps he is just more busy than
he had anticipated; or, as Rosalind suggests, he has gone away somewhere , to see his friends in N I ?
I too hope he returns soon and that all is well with him, and try not
to worry - just be patient...............

It is warm here too, 25C on my terrace, and I hope it does not
turn to being a humid heat as the day progresses.
Apparently, May this year has been the most stormy May (thunderstorms I mean) since 1998! 20 years!

Hi, Ros!
Yes, you will be looking forward to having your grandchildren over at the weekend!
We, too are seeing our younger daughter, son-in-law and grandsons on Sunday .
We are all going out for Fathers' Day!
We are looking forward to it!
BB is learning to play tennis...so I am hoping he will want to watch the occasional Wimbledon match with me.
He is keen to have the "rules" explained to him!
My husband was once on "Question Time" when it was chaired by Robin Day.
He had an NHS question to ask...... but like your family...in the end, he was never invited to voice it!

Hello, Pigale!
That is very nice of the Rangers to answer your query about Laddie...and so quickly , too.
It is certainly reassuring that they think Laddie is supplying an adequate amount of fish to feed Lassie and the chicks.
It is interesting to know that Lassie will not leave the nest long enough to fish for herself until the chicks have fledged in about a months’ time.
That, in effect, explains why last year that other osprey mum (I cannot remember her name?) did not go fishing herself to feed her chicks, after dad had disappeared.
Obviously not enough time had elapsed until she felt able to leave the babies.
Sad, though, that the time element resulted in their deaths.

Hi Elle!

All OK?
Not bad here, but rather lacking sunshine, though the day started
with bright blue sky.

Just had a peep to check on Lassie and family and it would appear
to be raining heavily there - Lassie is sitting on the chicks, her
wings partially spread to give them maximum protection.
Quiet peaceful otherwise, so they must have been fed.

Are you still following the kestrel family? Apparently a 'black
bird', probably a jackdaw, got into the box yesterday while Mum
was away and frightened the chicks by pecking them - don't
think any damage was done though, but they were huddled
together last night and refused to eat, obviously still traumatised
by the event. Mum sat on edge of box for ages, keeping guard
afterwards.
Always danger lurking around in nature!

What are you up to this week- end? Mine is going to be peaceful
as usual!

Hello, Pigale!
Yes, all well here thank you!
We were out very early this morning; it started out as a beautiful day.
We met up with some friends in the park.
But it is now clouding over....and becoming cooler.
I am thinking of getting in another walk before it does something dire...like rain!
The sky is looking a tad threatening!
Yes, I've been looking in on both the osprey chicks and the baby kestrels. not much seems to be happening...all is quiet and peaceful.
We have rather a busy weekend before us...
Tomorrow will be hectic...... first a dog walk, then visiting the Crematorium for Fathers' Day...and after that meeting daughter and family for lunch...after which they will all come back here.
But for now....a walk.......!

Hi, Chris!
I saw your reference to "Harvey" on the Guardian Prize thread...….
I loved James Stewart as Elwood P. Dowd, with his friend, Harvey, the invisible 6ft rabbit!
The film brought tears to my eyes!

Hi elle
Yes, a great film. However, as she knew I liked it, my daughter persuaded me to watch Donnie Darko. That also has an invisible rabbit, but there the similarites end - my advice would be DON'T{/b].!
