I am amazed that you can remember the individual characters' names and who did what in which book of Mr M's!
I am sure I have read my books far more recently than you did yours - as you recommended some of the titles to me - and I get very confused!
Elly has to be my favourite person!
But there were many women of "strong character" in his books.
I might have a hunt for "Alaska".......
I have been talking to my elder daughter on the phone - they are stilll snuffly, but still hoping to come.....we shall talk again tomorrow.....

I do remember most of the characters in Centennial, probably because it was a smashing book!
Like Cisco Calendar, Sheriff Axel Dumire, Hans "Potato" Brumbaugh, Jim Lloyd, Finlay Perkin, the Hereford cattle etc.
I liked them all, including Elly and Levi, and Clay Basket.
Weekend may be better for your daughter to visit?

Lucinda was another "strong" woman - but wasn't she from a later book then "Centennial"?
Who was the guy who popped up throughout several books and then later died?
His character part was a bit like a weave in a cloth?
Or is that too vague and fanciful for you to recognise whom I mean?
(I think I should know the name the minute I see it?)
A pity about Elise - she claims she was "knocked-over"?

I can not think of anyone who was in several books?
George Clooney was an "extra" in a crowd scene in the filmed series.

I shall unearth my books at some point and see what I can find....but they could be anywhere...!
And I could even be mixing this "person" up with a different book........

I've just watched Elise on a video clip on BBC Sport and, no, I couldn't see any sign of her being knocked over ...but she was quoted on the BBC website as saying
"I was knocked over, I didn't fall on my own. I worked so hard. It has been taken away from me."
???
I am just popping out with the dog briefly - it is damp, but not actually raining at present.....

I can not think of a one-legged character in any of the books.
But in Centennial, there was a one-armed character called Mule Canby.
Remember?
He was on the drive bringing the cattle North across the Llano Estacado (Staked Plain) and the deserts etc.
He rode with R.J.Poteet, Skimmerhorn, and young JIm Lloyd.
He ended up in a circus as a trick shooter but got burned to death in a fire in his tent.
I do not think anyone was to blame for Elise going down.
I did think, though, that the BBC were a bit over the top in the build-up they are giving her.
There are many super skaters there, not only Elise.
Fingers crossed for her in her next event, though!
