Good morning, Rusty!
It is a lovely day here - we have blue sky and sunshine, but it is very cold at 2C!
Invigorating though!
How are you feeling today?
What is it like in your neck of the woods?
I am about to make a coffee .......and take a look at the Everyman!

Good morning, Elle!
Great morning here, too.
I am much the same.
I have done the Sunday Times puzzle.
I don't think the Sunday puzzle is as good as the weekday ones.
One answer I have (I think it's correct) is "aha moment".
Not in my Chambers, though.
Have you heard of it?
A bit like "Eureka!", possibly?
This is the clue
"A crossword might give you one flipping laugh a minute! (3,6)
I have "a?a ?o?e?t" ?

Hi, Rusty!
Mmm.....
No, I have haven't heard of an "aha moment" but I think you are correct.
"I have "aha" by itself in my Chambers.
I'm thinking "flipping" may mean that "aha" reads the same backwards as forwards?
and of course "minute" = "moment"
Now "aha" is given as meaning "expressing exultation, pleasure, surprise or contempt".....
Supposing, in this instance, it means "contempt"..... could an "aha moment" = a cross word" as definition?
What do you think?

Hello, Elle,
I think "ha" is the laugh, reversed.
With "a moment".
I would not say a minute was a "moment", either.
A minute seems a bit long to be a moment?
An "aha moment" to me, is like a "Eureka".
When you suddenly see the answer through the mist?
I was not very keen on this crossword!

Good Morning Elle and Rusty,

I envy your blue sky and sunshine! Here, dull as it has been for
the last 2/3weeks, grey but not as cold as you - can't have it both
ways.

This 'aha moment' - could it be what is called a PDM ie Penny Drop Moment? I think this is the cryptic terminology - sounds a little
like your 'Eureka' Rusty?

Hi, Rusty!
Oh dear!
I was quite pleased with my parsing! (even if it is wrong, it seemed satisfying to me!)
Yes, I agree about the "Eureka" aspect...but it doesn' t fit with the parsing (does it?)
Yes, I too think that "ha" is the laugh reversed.......but I think "aha" is what is meant to be considered further in the clue....
Anne B gives "minute" for "moment".
And how are you accounting for the word "crossword" in the clue?
If that is not tied up what an "aha moment" what would you say is the 'definition'?
(I could well be way off beam....but it would be nice to know the answer!)
I've finished the Everyman - and no ST as yet!

Update, Rusty!

Collins online dictionary gives an "aha moment" as "an instant at which the solution to a problem becomes clear"

Eureka!

Good morning, Pigale!
Sorry, my and your posts more or less overlapped...I have only just seen your message.
Yes, it is lovely here....but bitterly cold...... the psychological effect of the (very watery ) sun is good though!
The "feel good" factor!
Cat has wrapped himself up in a fleecy blanket - altho it's nice and warm indoors!

Hello, Elle!
This clue has me bemused!
Roll on tomorrow to get a "proper" puzzle!
The "crossword" part of the clue (and we have all been there!) is referring to the nanosecond (not minute) that you suddenly discern what the solution is, usually after racking your brain, and possibly not appreciating part of the clue.
The definition is, "a crossword might give you one".
Amen!
Well I hope you get on better with the ST than I did!

Hello, Pigale!
It was minus 5C here earlier, my son was saying.
I have not ventured out today.
Too cosy indoors!
Yes, I think an "aha moment" is very like a "penny drop moment", if not actually the same.
I do not like criticising setters, but was not keen on that clue!
