Unfortunately, these things happen in Le Tour.
Team plans up in the air for today.
Bad luck for Gerrans, Dumoulin, and William Bonnet.
Lots of road rash.
Little sleep tonight.
Hope Cancellara rides on.
Today and tomorrow were ideal stages for him.

Didn't realise just how dangerous a sport it could be! Does the race carry on regardless?
Sorry for being such an ignoramus - it's not something I know much about?

I think the riders have decided not to race.
Crashes are normal, Elle.
The race goes on, but the riders appear to have downed tools!

Wello, what a day ! Seldom have I seen the race stopped in order to get started again when things calmed down; Sorry but I did not like the attitude of Sky Team who seemed to want to take advantage of everyone being slowed down - the security cars HAD TO be back up front, that is the rule and for the security of riders (if only to warn on-lookers that riders are just about to pass at speed)

Having said that, good run for C.Froome.

A'm just glad Cancellara was able to get back on his bike and at least finish the day's race - I had serious doubt at one point.

Contador looked a little 'passed his best' today - don't know if he did not want to push things too much that early in the Tour, or whether he just could not do better.

And so Martin should get the yellow jersey - that should please him after two days' disappointment.

What did you make of it Rusty? I know you must be sorry for Cancellara, but at least he still is in the Tour - well, I hope he will be better tomorrow!

Hello, Pigale!
I have mixed feelings about the race.
I do not think the race should have stopped.
Road conditions were OK and they were not at a railway line with a train coming. It was a rider error which brought everyone down. It is normal.
It was a sad way for Fabian to lose the jersey.
Even sadder that it escaped Tony Martin again.
Team Sky are a selfish team. Always have been.
They wont even allow their bikes to be painted in case they weigh a gram more.
Horrible looking kit and plain black bikes. Ugh!
I like Geraint Thomas of Sky, and Ian Stannard.
Not the rest.
Tomorrow will be even tougher, across the cobbles.
This, I hoped, was a stage for Fabian, but now?
Were you pleased with the French riders?
Pierre Rolland did well.

Rusty, I thought T. Martin would get the yellow (going on points so far); Did Rodriguez get it after all?

Mixed feelings about stopping the race, but I guess that because of the unknown (at the time) number of cyclists involved, the organisers had to take a decision within a few minutes and no doubt there will be a lot of discussion going on this evening - after the event.

I also know that it is not the first time that several riders fall because of one little error - yet, when you look at the peloton on such narrow roads, it's a wonder it does not happen more often!

Unfortunately, it looks as though there may be showers in the North of France tomorrow - don't know if the cobbles will be affected or not. Let's hope not!

Fabian looked as though he was under some pain, so don't really know what forms he will be tomorrow.
I was a bit disappointed by Pinot, and where was T. Voeckler? Have not really heard his name mentioned yet ?

Froome is in yellow, Pigale.
I think Pinot was about 20th. Not bad.
No sign of Voeckler?
He may have been caught up in the crash.
I noticed Cancellara finished on a different bike than the one he started on.
Cobbles and rain are a very bad mix!
Normally I would cheer Cancellara on a cobbled stage, but will he even start tomorrow?
May switch to cheering for Degenkolb or Filippo Pozzato.
So, several riders out, and still a long, long, way to Paris.

Hi again,

Browsing through my cyclist magasine, I have come across some very interesting figures as to what the Tour involves;

It means 3360km in toto
2645m the highest mountain (Galibier - not this year though)
223km the longuest stage (tomorrow)
198 cyclists and 22 teams
