Hello, Elle!
What I have are "ice grips".
They fit on to my shoes and have prongs to give a sure grip on the ice.
They bite into the ice or frozen snow.
Google "ice grips" and you can see them.
Or, there will be some on Amazon.
I think both spellings are acceptable, Elle.
Megan Boyd was a remarkable woman.
There was a documentary about her.
"Kiss the Water" I think it was called.
She specialised in salmon flies....and she never fished herself!
She died a few years ago.
My son ties flies too, and sells them.
No sign of snow, yet, thankfully!

Good morning, Rusty!
We have a lovely sunny mild (ish) day here!
Glorious out in the park!
I do hope you haven't, in contrast, had any snow?
Yes, I have ice grips on my snow boots, too.
They are very effective!
(But I shall still hope not to need them!)
Just about to take a quick look at the crossword..........

Good morning, Elle!
Beautiful blue skies and no snow here....so far!
It is cold though!
The ice grips are excellent, though I do not need them too often.
Good luck with your puzzle!

Hi, Rusty!
A wonderful day weather wise!
But everything else is not going according to plan!
My "Ladies who Lunch" arrangement has been called off......
Mind you, that does have the distinct advantage of our being able to go out with the dog instead!
Perhaps a nicer idea in view of today's sunshine!
Well, I've done as much as I can of the 15 x15.
I found today's crossword much harder?
Five clues yet to do.......I have crossing letters but no ideas yet as to answers!
I shall mull them over during the course of the day......
Light may yet dawn!
Have you done yours?

What ho, Elle!
(I was having a wee look at a Bertie Wooster book!)
Great day here, too, but only three degrees. Cold!
I have just finished my puzzle, and parsing, too.
I thought 21d, was a smashing clue! Made me grin!
New words to me were, 6a, 14a, and 3d.
A good mix today, from the setter.
He ha made a fine puzzle.

Good afternoon, Rusty!
Ah, now 6a and 21d remain as two of the clues that I cannot do?
6a: "?R?D
21d: ?O?L?D
This is all that I have?
( I have now succeeded in solving the other three clues)
I liked "Bastille" and "To speak of"
"Ked" was a new word for me!
Right......we are shortly going out for a walk.......
So as Bertie would say........ "Toodle Pip"!
And as General MacArthur said.......... "I shall return".

Hello, Elle!
Enjoy your walk!
21, now apart from MPs, what other creature may be in a "parliament"?
And where do most folk "sleep"?
The full answer is a cricketing term.

6, The answer (new word to me!) is a word, the first four letters of which are an ancient port in Israel, or a measurement of land.
"Keds" are nasty things!

Today's Guardian has that sort of parliament too, I guess, as well as several other answers of a similar nature

Hi, Rusty!
Home again - just in time as it is fast going dark!
Yes, we had a great walk........meeting up with quite a few friends out with their dogs.
I had no idea who /what would be in a "parliament" and had to resort to asking Google!
After your hints, I have come up with "b owl ed" for the answer!
Now 6a....I have never heard of "acred"?
I take it the definition is "having much land" - and it is arrived at by removing the "s" from "sacred" (not originally untouchable)
A clever clue, but I couldn't get it!
I am going to find something to eat...I am feeling very hungry.......

Hello, Elle!
I thought "b owl ed" was a smashing clue!
I was sure you would know a parliament of owls?
This would be no help to you, but Anne Bradford has "owl" under "parliament".
No, I have never seen or heard of "acred", too.
Yes it seems to be (s)acred.
It's an OK clue, but nothing great, I do not think.
