Free verse usually has some internal rhythm! This is one of my favourite couplets. It describes a boy (about 6, I think) meeting his father for the first time in several years. His father has been a manager of some kind in Africa and he has been in England with his mother-

He called me son, but only once
And ever after boy to keep me in my place.

I think one has to agree, it is poetry not prose and is quite powerful.

I agree. Ros.
Free Verse is definitely classed as "poetry" and not prose.
According to Wikipedia.....
"Free verse is an open form of poetry. It does not use consistent meter patterns, rhyme, or any other musical pattern. Many poems composed in free verse thus tend to follow the rhythm of natural speech."
All the more powerful for that.

Good evening, Rusty!
We had an enjoyable - cold and invigorating - walk earlier......arriving home just in time for the family's arrival.
It has been a hectic, but fun -filled, afternoon!
The family has just left.
Very dark outside already!
I didn't have any time to watch the tennis........
( The TV only goes on if anyone is ill-advised enough to visit during Wimbledon Finals!)
Did you get to see any of it?
I believe that Roger won the first match...against Jack Sock?
What sort of a day have you had?

Hello, Elle!
Glad you enjoyed family time!
I think Roger won, but I do not know the scores.
I tried watching the cycling but gave up.
I find the format irksome.
And EuroSport's commentator was getting things wrong.
Thank goodness he had Jo Rowsell co-commentating, to keep him right!
Other than that my day was fine.
What about the bookshelves?

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, family time is always good!
We sent them home well fed, and the children exhausted and ready for bed!
The darker nights have made it much easier for their mum to get them to bed and asleep!
Now ...bookshelves....?
We haven't discussed this further , but I think the idea is to shop at Ikea...and to buy bookshelving also appropriate for storing toys/ toy boxes / as well as books.
The ATP tennis......
I hopefully will have a chance to see some tennis during the week, as it is showing on BBC2 daily.
I think it is a Round Robin tournament?
So plenty of opportunity to see Roger play!
How are you getting on with your new book?
I shall go make a coffee and then phone my cousin....
I think it is my turn.....

Hello, Elle!
I had bookshelves made for me by a joiner many years ago.
Still going strong!
I have not been to an Ikea shop.
There is not one in town.
I am almost finished my book.
Two chapters to go!
Huntly Gordon seemed to be a very decent lad.
He survived the war, too.
All well with your cousin?

Hi, Rusty!
Ikea is quite an education!
It is a lovely shop to wander around, has some lovely stuff , and is really great for ideas and such....
But it is an absolute nightmare to queue and pay for your goods!
You need to have the patience of Job to get out of there!
I quake in my shoes at the prospect of trying to pay and leave!
I think we may be needed to transport the bookshelves --- they come in flatpacks --as our car is bigger than either of theirs.
And delivery costs are extortionate!
My cousin and family are fine, thank you.
Like you, they have been having fine and sunny weather - and not all that cold, apparently!
But it has been decidedly chilly here, today.

Hello, Elle!
I do not think I would like Ikea!
I seem to remember my daughter-in-law telling me it was difficult to escape Ikea!
I did not know the delivery costs were extortionate.
It is cold here.
2C outside now.
Right, back to my book!

Good morning, Rusty!
We have a beautiful day here.... blue sky, bright sunshine.....but only 1C at 8am!
A most enjoyable brisk walk!
I hope you have as good weather in your neck of the woods?
Oh, Ikea is well worth a visit - it a wonderful shop... a bit like fairyland with its innovations....but you do need patience when aiming to "get out"!
I think the delivery charges are OTT.
A smallish package - up to 25Kg - cost £7-50
But anything over that cost £35.......and if you live outside that zone (as we do)......then the delivery cost is even greater!
£35 + on top of the cost of whatever one has bought, is a lot of money, don't you think?
Right, time for a coffee.......
