Hi, Rusty!
I am definitely not 'programmed' for heat!
I cannot tolerate these sort of temperatures - especially the humidity.
Even with two fans going at full blast, I am still "suffering"!
But the good news is that I have done the 15 x 15!
Yes, I agree with you, it was a reasonable one today...
I have but two to parse .... but I shall work on those for a while!
I especially liked 3d, 7d, 15d and 25 across - they appealed to me!

Hello, Elle!
Slightly cooler here!
Today's puzzle was on the easy side, yes, I concur.
I am off for a canny dander.
Hope all is going well for you both.

Hi, Rusty!
We did slightly better than expected, and are home again!
It is very good news!!
The Xray is still clear (6 years now since the operation ) and the Consultant is so pleased with my husband's results and progress that he has now been discharged!
We are over the moon!
Thank goodness for that...it has been such a harrowing few years, as you can imagine.
Life looks good!
Still very hot here!

Good evening, Elle!
That is certainly splendid news for your husband and you!
Well done!
Yes, I can well imagine how harrowing it must have been, for both of you, and your family, too.
I think you should have an ice cream to celebrate?
I could murder one!
It is a bit cooler here, but we did not have the higher temperatures that you folks in the South did.
And your toe is healing, too!

What absolutely brilliant news, elle. Must feel like a proverbial weight has been lifted.
I'd be opening the chilled prosecco myself, but I don't think either of you drinks alcohol. Anyway I'm sure you'll find a good way to celebrate.
Far, far too hot here and I have strawberries coming out of my ears!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, that was a very good idea of yours....I enjoyed my ice -scream!
Especially as I could eat it with an easy mind!
( I wish I could offer you one!)
It isn't getting any cooler here!
I'm not expecting to sleep well tonight.
I'm stuck on a final parse.....
14a: Caught in a sort of brake , sensible to rotate this way?(13)
I have "anticlockwise" = rotate this way
c - caught
lock- sort of brake
wise - sensible
but where does "anti" come in?
Am I being dense here?

Hello, Ros
Yes, it feels wonderful - as you say, a great weight off both our minds!
No, I don't drink alcohol, but my husband does like a glass of wine or a lager!
I'm sure he might well indulge over dinner, just to celebrate!

Hello, Elle!
You do not want "locking" brakes. Very dangerous!
You need "anti-locking" brakes.
No, not dense at all, you are not used to braking terminology, is all.
Lucky you with the ice cream!
A very nice post from Rosalind, too, in my humble opinion!

Thank you rusty.

Goodness, I just went for a walk. What a bad idea. All the bloodthirsty bugs in creation were waiting for me, even horse flies. Not doing that again in a hurry

A thunderstorm is forecast for here tomorrow. That should be fun. I go into my conservatory and revel in them- the more noise and loud rain the better. But I don't have animals to think about.

Sleep well elle, in spite of the heat.

Hi, Rusty!
Oh dear! well, I certainly had that wrong!
I assumed that the brakes "locked" and thus stopped the vehicle from moving!
I shall hang my head in shame !
Yes, a nice response from Ros. I hope I thanked her adequately.
It is great to be able to share good news with friends.......especially in the midst of the present unhappy climate.
The sheer weight of worry that has gone from me is unbelievable!
I shall probably go on repeating this all evening!
I feel euphoric!
I wish it would rain or thunder or something......
The atmosphere is so heavy that when I go out into the garden, i feel as though I have had a thick blanket thrown over me!
(I wonder if a parrot feels like this when its cage is covered?)

Hello Ros!
Yes, thanks again for your kind thoughts!
I'm not sure that sleep will be a possibility. the atmosphere is very oppressive.
We were chatting to the neighbours...it's heartening that everyone feels the same about this heat.
A thunderstorm would be good - but it's a bit too hot to sleep with the dog!

Hello, Elle!
No, locking brakes are dangerous.
You need good efficient brakes that can stop you quickly without locking, and consequently skidding.
Have a wee look at "anti-lock braking" in Wikipedia.
Or your friendly garage man would tell you.
Known in the motoring world as "ABS".
Anti-lock Braking System.
Yes, you will be feeling euphoric after your husband being "discharged".
A great relief, I am sure!
We do need a thunderstorm but I not think it is forecast!
