Hello, Elle,
Ham Peggotty was a character in a book, I think?
I was ages and ages parsing 24a.
I got there after a bit.
Was torn between two words but am satisfied I have it now.
BC hired spin doctors to tell lies for them.
The truth is coming out now.
Jess is going to sue them and please God she wins.
The BC medal factory is tainted!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, you are right !
Ham Peggotty appears to be in "David Copperfield" - a book I have never read!
It did not occur to me that "Peggotty" might be a literary character.
I puzzled over it for ages!
I'm afraid that I am not a Dickens fan!
I read "A Christmas Carol"; "The Old Curiosity Shop"; "A Tale of Two Cities"; and "Great Expectations"........and then gave up!!
24a: Keen, suggesting a tanner? (4)
avid = keen
A vi d - a six pence (tanner)
I really liked it!
Good for Jess - I hope she wins her legal action !
(Maybe I should due the HMRC for harassment?!)
Right....I am going out now for a walk - in the sunshine!!!!!

Hello, Elle!
Enjoy your walk!
24a, I was not sure to go "acid" or "avid"!
And it took me ages to get the parse!
I have my thick head on today.

Hi, Rusty!
Wow, it was surprisingly warm out!
Some brave folk were even walking without coats.
We weren't quite that daring....but did undo ours!
I think the temperature definitely hit double figures!
But I think your rain must be on its way down here..... the forecast for tomorrow shows rain all the day.
Have you managed to get out for a walk? or has your rain been continuous - and consequently off -putting?
I am going to read for a while now - I deserve a sit-down before preparing dinner!
Tonight I shall watch "The Voice:UK" and record "Casualty".
The programmes clash as usual.
How is your cycling going?

Sorry, Jazzgirl...... thank you!
I did not notice your response slipped in, back there.......I hadn't scrolled down far enough to see it.

hi Elle
no problem really. I felt sure you would remember the TV serials and maybe the films, even if you had not read the book. . I was just a kid when I saw the first "David Copperfield" film on TV . You must have heard of Mr Micawber (hope I've spelt him right) and the slimy Uriah Heep. Such brilliant characters of Dickens. Anyway, I am off for the rest of the weekend now, as the family have roped me in to help out at the boatyard. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hello, Elle!
It has been dry here most of the day.
I am awaiting news from my son, but he may not be home just yet.
He was fishing on the Tay today and wondering if he caught anything.
There was a fine 31lb fish landed yesterday.
A big fish for Spring.
I watched bits of cycling and had a shortish walk.
I have had my tea.
Beef casserole. Was fine!
