I think SMEW is right - ME in the SW (West country).


I thought OMAN was right too, though!

ZERO, SMEW and PLUNGE could all have the definition "duck". LENIN changes to LINEN, of which "duck" is a type.

16a & 16d still have me stumped. Have AMOROUS for 16a but don't see why.
Think 23d is LINEN. Type of duck and Lenin with Middle mixed.

AMOROUS
Def. HOT; A MOUS(e) around OR (other ranks or "men")

16 a could be a texting version of "I'm fine"

Are you new to the forum/Guardian threads? I don't recall having seen your handle before. If so, you are very welcome (you are too even if you aren't new!)

Is there any closer relationship between those 4? 3 are of a similar vintage and nationality, but the 10a I'm thinking of differs in both.

Hi chrise, thank you. No I'm not new but usually just a 'lurker'. Today I rattled through most of it but got bogged down and needed hints on the last few. I do the occasional postings over at 225 (Aoxomoxoa).

I can't see any closer relationship for those 4 other than the D-word.
