found this quite a struggle, got there in the end although i can't explain 18d.

just got back to this - still only got a "z" solution. got no idea of politician (or quotation, naturally)- no idea which clues are the 8 switched.
prepared to face "tempest"uous :-)) criticism for a little assistance.

Dizzy, suggest you forget quote until you've solved a lot more clues, I had nearly finished before I saw it. Try 10ac next - straightforward anagram with A left over. Then 3dn also anagram with a letter left over.

Trevor, 18dn, not sure, alternative spelling of Mike to replace mys? But then left with cro to explain.

Sorry dizoz, this machine keeps 'correcting' things and I often don't notice although maybe you are dizzy with this crossword.

teenie, the alternative spelling leaves roc to explain which is an exclamation backwards.

If you followed the hints through you should have got or easily get 4: second @ policeman's abbreviation. Take a letter out to get the solution defined by the last word.

sorry - should be 'second +' etc

Got everything except for a few of the confused clues. Can anyone help with 1a and 33a. I think I have the answers but not sure!

Just worked those ones out, but still stuck on 25a
