Just one query, Les: in your 58d, should "of" read "off"?

You're correct GK, another schoolboy error on my part. It should indeed read 'Off'

I can't really say too much without giving the formula away, but rest assured, when you crack one of them, the rest should become very solvable. Remember my clue, to scrutinize the area, the word that is missing is only part of the actual answer to each missing clue word, the rest (of the phrase) becomes apparent when realising it's position. I may have said too much already.

I'm sure the guys will give you a gentle push when they start to crack it.
I'm off to to do some graft, I may check in later if I get chance from work.

Just a quick check. I have 52a ending in two letters that don't seem to go together as an ending, except in one foreign girl's name that I can think of. Is this correct?

Chris: I can only say, that's not what I've got, but your "guess" is as good as mine!

I hope there's no controversy over 52ac. I thought it was quite straightforward.

The problem I have with 52a is its crossers! (stopping from finding a word at the moment.) Obviously at least one of them is wrong (though I was quite confident about both).
