I remain flummoxed by the long clue around the perimeter. Am I looking for a quotation and/or an anagram???

martin, yes and yes - 'model' being the anagram indicator. Some of the words go round the corners of the perimeter, and Marx is a clue

Thank you, Mrs Trellis, I'll keep trying. Whatever the quotation is, it's not in either of my dictionaries of quotations, not under any of the Marx's, anyway.

Try googling Marx, and just one word that seems obvious from the perimeter so far - I found it this way.

Indeed it is, Greedy Kite. The penny has finally dropped: it took a while to do so, but better late than never, eh? Many thanks for the sundry nudges to those who provided them.
