mrs t - you're on the right track for 1ac. Think of an alternative meaning of "moon".

Oh for goodness sake, I had thought of that earlier and dismissed it. As soon as you said it it made sense! Thanks peterm. I haven't been able to parse 1d either, although I know it's right - but I'll wait til later when more people have had a chance to look at it. Thanks again.

@bobs mum.I had a similar problem...see above on page 2. It seems that Java was disabled on my browser (Firefox) so I could see neither regular grid or the print version. I enabled it and everything was fine

Finished (really this time).

I'm with you completely on 1D Mrs T. Don't understand the other letters or the end of the clue.

Also 1A - I get the moon bit (made me laugh, last night)and I can see two very tenuous links to the first half of the clue but I don't like them and I think there should/must be another explanation.

Also 13A: I have an answer which fits the crossing words and answers the definition word of the clue, but the rest of the clue is a mystery to me.

And lastly, 28A: The first letters of my answer don't seem to be related to the clue. The last 5 are, and the whole answer fits the definition. So where do those first 3 letters come from?

I thought this one was good fun. The first one I've done without getting help here - yay!

Congrats livs!
13a first 2 letters - synonym for 'reason' without the middle letter
28a I think the first 3 letters are being used for 'a', I wasn't too sure on that either.

re 1a I was so glad to have solved it (with help) that I forgot to parse it - and no, I don't get it either.

1dn is a compound anagram. The unabridged answer replaces the long underscore at the end of the clue. "One potterer in" + unabridged answer is an anagram ("is abused") of the first 2 words of the clue.
