Sorry, jazzgirl. Pushing it a bit, but rather liked the shootout image- a holdup for what's being held up perhaps?

I think that was the image I had, either Dick Turpin with the stagecoach or some Western.
Off to lunch but still not solved 45a.

Aristo, thanks for this:

Wendy: I was at a disadvantage with 33d. It's rather like my using Paul Newman in a clue about, say, putting clothes on (dressing).

Still can't get it, but in my defence I'd rather take clothes off Paul Newman than dress him!

Even when he's six feet under? He and his wife, Joanne Woodward, ran/run a camp here in New England (CT), and to raise funds for it they sell an array of items that you can find in any supermarket over here- Newman's Own, with a rather creepy picture of him on the label. I think McDonald's sells his coffee, and one of the best sellers is his salad dressing.

I hope it was OK for non-contributors like myself(hopeless at making up clues)to have a go at this? Huge congratulations to all of you for this marvellous crossword! I'm so impressed by your talents. Seem to be stuck on the same few as some of the others but still thinking hard. It was certainly challenging trying to solve this with so many different styles of clues. Maybe next time will be easier!

Aristo, I just love the slogan

In crust we trust!

Still doesn't get me 33 down though.

Wendy, I always knew you were a woman of good taste,I can't remember a time when I was not in love with Paul Newman...sigh.

Have yet to start on the crossword, "life" keeps getting in the way.

...and well done Les40.
