I'm not selfish, honestly, but it's so frustrating when you discuss a clue at such length and I already have it, in this case 10A.

And I have little enough as it is, 6 definite and 1 iffy.

But 7D - presumably the word goes between off and ood, suggesting it ends in "IN G(OOD)" - but ENDING hardly fits the passage, surely?

Rob P - it looks to me that, in the absence of the answer to 7dn, there is more than plausible answer to 10ac (mine makes perfect sense).

Wow - two perfectly plausible different answers for 10ac - it's lucky I'm a masochist - do you have 6 or 7d peterm to reinforce your sidekick.(have same 5d as you)

Sadly, I don't yet have either. (We had a similar situation with 21dn).

I've got to go out now, so I'm finished here for tonight. I'll check again tomorrow morning, by when I'm sure you all will have finished! Oh, and I still haven't worked out what you and AJT have for 10ac, despite all the clues.

peterm - well, I was perfectly happy with my solution to 10A, and it fits in with others' comments (green stuff, et cetera). Are you suggesting it's not what I think it is?

Had a Eureka Moment in NE corner. Your "green stuff" is right. That's given me 6dn and 4ac, but 7dn still a problem (despite having all the checked letters).

I've ground to a halt peterm - did get 11 and 13ac which gives me all the checking letters for 3d except the last one - the three possible words don't seem to fit sensibly though - the gap looks to be at denie/drank?

ixion - for 17ac, read it as "Go to etc", with a break in the word "cert". The key letter should hit you. There's a letter change in the last word so that the passage makes sense.

I don't have 11ac yet.

Thanks, peterm. I still haven't got 17A yet, even after your clues, but at least I've stopped looking at it as "Got obe(se????) a cert for band," as in gastric.
