Jolan - you are right..rather pointless hanging on til 5
1. Bags (lay claim to - I bags it) also great deal -
2. Heart surgeon - hear t s urge on
3. Dost - old word for Do - sounds like Dust - clean (vocal - sound)
4 ins and outs - anagram of saints undo (byzantine = complicated)
5. astarboard - a star board

I've also thought of anagrams with OLD (old-fashioned) and VOCAL. LAVO (minus the C) = clean.
chris, you are right: there's no doubt I will be kicking myself!

Absolutely spot on Chrisg (as per usual). The "old-fashioned" is an "archaic" indicator.

Would you be willing to be first judge on Terry's suggested comp? Who would do it better?

I actually thought of DUST this morning when I was thinking of words for cleaning.

Somewhat later, I tried fleetingly to come up with some "ye olde" type word but failed to think of any and in any case, did not connect that attempt with DUST.

As only an occasional contributor I feel a little presumptious adding my views but Terry's idea of a rolling clue sounds like a valuable addition to an already emjoyable site.

i'll eat my hat,if someone knits me one,but i don't see this rolling clue thing working.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Given the incredibly high number of morons per square gigabite on here success is probably not an option. Could be fun though.

Your pessimism may prove justified but most of us using the site are well used to the liberal use of moron filters.
