Naturally I liked 42a.

Finished RT51 last night,an enjoyable and not too difficult effort with lots of witty clues and quirky solutions although 29d I thought a bit obscure.
Christmas cards are beginning to plop through the letterbox so I'd better lay aside this crossword
lark and get on with spreading some loving
kindness abroad.
Slight thaw today with mid day temp about +5c but it will take weeks to clear all this compacted ice and snow even with help from our brave soldiers.
