Hints only…
The second one is a term for a piece of organ music.
Pair avoid parses as 2,5 for the second word.

I am also bemused by 9D. I think the 3rd from final letter is "i" not "o", but even so I can only find an 8 letter second word that fits the crossers.

mrcodger - to help with the unclueds, try thinking how the title might be misheard if read out loud.

The only gap in mine is 16a. 😒

A hint (author or other clue) would be appreciated.

12d had me head-scratching for a while too.
