Yes you are. I know the thematic source and the author. I have also successfully reviewed numbers 2-7, but the first and eighth (from the work) are baffling me. Also, i have removed words from 25 and 29 down, but I think it should be only one of those. Finally, I haven't a clue for the entry at 28a. Other than that I am quite confident with everything else.

It seems that the magic of posting works again. I now have an entry at 28a and a completed grid.

Thanks for your response, dodgepot. I had worked out the reviewed entries from the source material. Some very clever indeed!

Good stuff, bc. The more I reviewed this puzzle, the more I liked it, actually. A good challenge, cleverly implemented. It’s been an excellent year so far

Completed the grid and was then stuck, until I saw the hint on this site to google a couple of the reviewable solutions.

Confident that I have now completed this challenging and enjoyable puzzle.

The only loose ends are:
1) several clues I am unable to parse (too numerous to list) and (2) I don’t understand the reference to two titles overlapping, and indeed I was unable to use some of the extra words.

Happy to wait 3 weeks to clear those up.

Hello - have finished the puzzle but any chance of a hint to the parsing of 40a?

Pretty confident I've got the answer right, and I think that the extra word must correspond to the entry at 9d, but cannot for the life of me see how it works!

Aybee, I believe 40a is the single normally clued entry in the puzzle in thematic conjunction with your grid entry at 1d. The parsing requires dropping an adjective describing a monarch from an example of the penultimate word in the clue

And I really liked the title! Very neat.

A bit hard-going for me, though a cunning puzzle. I have everything, I think, but I can't parse 8 down. Nor can I match 9 down and 28 across to the extra words I have identified.

This blew my mind a bit but I think I understand. Not quite sure how 3dn and 37ac reviews lead to the answers given. Can anyone give a hint without giving too much away?
