Gawdelpus, at 14.42, and others...
I've seen 'We met...' answered elsewhere - as West, left. We and (met) St. There was a literary link given, about Julian in a futuristic novel - I didn't note the details, sorry!

Sodor is a place, diocese, something like that, linked with the Isle of Man. I expect the second half of the clue indicates a literary character, but I didn't investigate that!

I did consider Sodor but that’s where Thomas the Tank Engine lives so I dropped it haha Thanks!

OR, and earlier, SOD (someone unpleasant)
SODOR isn't a real place, though - home of Thomas, as you say. It is quite like the Isle of Man, but why religious partner?

Yes - there's a Diocese of Sodor and Man

ChrisE, sorry - I meant to thank you for the rest of the parsing. I sometimes switch off when it's TLS clues as many of the literary references escape me.

No problem, malone. It was satisfying to work that out between us!

Apparently the Sodor and Man diocese dates back to when a lot of the western islands were under the rulership of Norway. Sodor included most of the western Scottish islands (I didn't know that - it was from the link I posted!). Presumably that's where the Rev. Awdry got the name.
