We met St Julian in a futuristic novel once, and left (4) ?E?T Could it be “west?”

Work with teacher initially for bishop - a Catholic one in America (6) ?A?O?R “Tabour” ?

I think!
The first one looks more like WENT, with "left" as the definition. I don't know how the futuristic St. Julian gives the NT, though.
The second could be LATOUR - T for B in LABOUR, but again I don't know the Catholic in America reference - is it a university?
