I have succeeded in filling most of the grid but am now totally bewildered. Is the Group to do with a certain JB or am I on totally the wrong track?
Also help please with 20A Jock's dire at first lying around in retreat (4)

Right track, think arch-enemies.
20A has a single letter misprint in the second word, the answer being an unfamiliar meaning of a familiar word.

I had guessed as much but couldn't get an answer to work with L..L?

Sybila, the last letter isn't an L, I made the same mistake at first. Try a slightly different word in 3D.

Last few posts presume allude to 10A … a pleasant quite quick fill - but have a problem with 22A … honourable mostly closed etc … can’t see clue as equivalent of entry? … also still looking at title … is a homophone involved? …

There is a misprint in the last word of 22

Good point about 22a Crates. Hadn't noticed that. I think it's an error. The entry has several of the last word* but, as far as I can see, none of them are the same name as the entry.

Hm, I just bunged it in assuming it was a city. I guess Eclogue knows as much Japanese geography as I do?
