Relief after last week.
A couple of questions, though:

23d Spurious rise in public transport (5)
Where do letters 2 and 3 come from?

3d etc. I've got from the crossers, but what does it have to do with druid's photo?

For 3d think of the first word of the answer as an anagram indicator and the rest of the answer as fodder…

Thanks jono.
That's a problem with long ones - they are always easier to solve from definition and crossers than the clue itself!

I also can’t get 23d to work.
“…attempt to rise…” where rise indicates a reversal would work.

Yes. I wonder if it's a Grauniad misprint?

I am thinking that rise = ## UP, where the #’s are the 3rd and 2nd letters

It does explain the question mark at the end.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks Matilda. A tad easier than the norm but I did get held up in the NE for a while. I can't pick a COD because so many are good.

Maybe like others I'd go for 8d if I'd worked it out yet but I'm stumped for now. Likewise 11a. Obvious answer but I don't get the rest.

Hi rocky
8 - def is last 2 words. Parses as an insertion of 3 letters in 5.
I think (as do others apparently) that 11 is just a rather weak cryptic.
