Thought this was a perfect Everyman in terms of difficulty and clever, satisfying clueing. Really enjoyable.

My only difficulty was with everyone's COD - 8a, as, although I'm a Londoner, I had no idea where the Royal Courts of Justice are, so that part of the clue was baffling to me! I needed my OH's help with that one.

Only one, minor, quibble - the DD in 15a - although it was easily gettable, strictly speaking it is not a gown, but something worn over a gown.

Julesvern, I had a similar reaction though Chambers comes to Everyman’s rescue, definition 3…
“Loosely, a gown, a surplice”

Most enjoyable. I only discovered the Everyman last weekend, but already it’s becoming a favourite. Done in jig-time, with most clues bringing a smile.

The Spoonerism I had immediately but it took me ages to justify - being Irish, I, thankfully, had no idea of the locale of the Royal Courts of Justice (although I’m a frequent visitor to the home of British capitalists😁).

COD 18d - the Viz has made me unflappable😜

I'm stuck on 5d and have an answer to 4a but don't see how.

5d is hidden, def "we've all been there" (pl.)

4a definition "also", based on a (typographical) character in the clue.

I don't see how "we've all been there" can possibly apply to the plural!

Me neither, I questioned it when I solved last night.

Though it works for those who believe in reincarnation. :-)
