Yes, the breaker reveals nothing (probably for the reason you've given). The second word of the key phrase should be exactly twice as long as your 'locate' word.

Thank drxx. I’m sure that will help. Any repeated letters?

Ricky, evening up 12 across does not produce anything in the Playfair breaker. I will keep plodding on.

I got a good amount of enjoyment from this puzzle! The clues were challenging, but not too much so, the theme was recognisable, but I didn't guess it before I was intended to, and the final step was tricky but not impossible. Really hit the Goldilocks zone for me on nearly every step and also I had a good time decoding the Playfair.

A great puzzle to end the 2024 Listener year, the tenure of John Green, and the legacy of Dysart.

All I have left is to modify an entry to follow the instructions—I have a candidate but it’s hard to be certain whether it’s the correct one. It changes every letter in the answer but one, does that seem right?

The correct candidate is clearly signalled by the two word instruction, and changes all but one letter. So if it fulfils that I wouldn’t look any further.

I really dislike the way in which the instruction is implemented. The rest of the puzzle is excellent, but this is a real GWIT, where the W is Where.

I can see a tenuous link with the entry being changed, but it's very unsatisfying.

Nevertheless, Dysart will be missed.

rhsl - that seems a tad harsh as there aren’t any other options for placement that don’t interfere with a thematic entry
