5 would appear to be an anagram of “yer” + “ad” (and gutted), but that would make “nonetheless” the indicator. A bit of a stretch?

Buddy - Ready Steady Cook was a UK television programme.
(Might still be for all I know - haven’t turned the telly on since the Sopranos finished).

Re the 5 (and dime) - Ready is UK informal for available money; cash.

There being no new entries today, let's wrap this up:
As always, I looked first for usage of cryptic grammar, no indirect anagrams, conciseness, and a silky smooth surface. I also believe abbreviations should be supported by Chambers, or at least Collins (yes, I am a tough grader).

So after much winnowing:
Of the "READ + Y" clues I liked jono 4 best (better than the tweak at 38); also liked jono 33 (always love a subtractive anagram); darla 31 (an olde-y but goodie); fj's butt-crostic at 26 (although I thought edited=ready was a stretch), aristo 21, geting 19 and tyke's hidden at 18.

The winning clue required much ponderation on my part. It came down to jono 4 or geting 19:

Rhino tracks found around eastern and central Wagadugu (5)

Loved the surface, and that rhino and ready are both slang for cash. But the Clue Clinic does not support "central X" as "the middle of X", instead supporting "central parts of X". However, some searching on 225 found this recent clue from a Guardian Quiptic:

Central resorts said to be sisterly

Where central resorts = SOR. Good enough for them, good enough for me. So the gold goes to geting 19!

Congrats geting and thanks all for playing.

An aside: I have seen a proliferation of incorrect first letter indicators recently. Since geting won this contest, he will probably not feel too bad if I pick on another of his clues (#3) as an example, where I really liked the surface but the clue did not work:

See your first game (5)

But "Yxxxx first" does not mean Y; it would have to be "first of Yxxxx" or "Yxxxx's first" or "Yxxxx at first". The Clue Clinic has an extensive page of letter selection indicators here:

Thank you for the award, Buddy. Lucky you didn't do any fact-checking as I believe rhinos disappeared from that area many decades ago. Of the three songs, Muddy Waters is my favourite.
Appreciate the feedback on the clues and have bookmarked the link. Had a suspicion that 'your first' was breaking convention but hoped to get away with it
