Doable crossword easy endgame.

Oh dear. I must be thick! I don't understand the preamble! Could you please help me with an example of how 1 across breaks down as described in the second sentence into an across entry and a down entry.

Do the normal clues first.

1a Medical advisors gutted laboratory/birds (6)
nice-ly arenaria
The 1st part of the 1a clue is the cryptic part of the definition
in clue 37a in an agreeable way.
The 2nd part of the 1a clue is the definition part of the cryptic
part in clue 37a About to engage in a new song. (a-re-n-aria)

Both of the answers nicely and arenaria are entered at other
locations than 1a or 37a.

Sometimes in the special clues the corresponding 2 parts to the 2 parts
in a clue you are looking at are held in 2 different other clues not just 1
like in th example at 1a.
in 23a across the 2 parts correspond to half of 8d and half of 2d

Absolutely brilliant crossword - and I found it very difficult. Like krauton, I solved as many of the normal clues as I could, 10a and 12a both causing me big problems. I then started to find words to fit in the rest of the grid, and look for definitions of these in the other clues. Once the definitions are spotted you know where the split is in these clues so you just need to piece together the 16 pairs. It took me a long time, but it was thoroughly enjoyable, and the highlighting at the end is very apt and not too difficult to spot.

I'm stuck on two in the SE corner...

Both are "normal" but with extra letters in wordplay, S and W respectively.
Any hints appreciated so that I can put this down!

i didbt know eother of these defns - but its a 7 letter word meaning cyclist less a W = someone that spurs.

think where spurs are found.
