Agreed, another stroll in the park. Only comment - some of the unclued items have passed into oblivion, making a Google search quite tricky for anyone who did not have a UK childhood.

Poor old Doc

Someone has to have a word.

But never forget that compilers probably don't get paid even half the minimum wage for all the time they put in.

I am guessing that most of us don't pay for the puzzle, so aren't really entitled to complain, but this was dismal.

Bobby, I DO pay for the puzzle, and always have done. I think I get so cross when Doc gives us these awful specimens because I know he is capable of far better puzzles! He did some great, challenging crosswords before - but that is now getting way back in the past.

Well I kinda liked it, despite the undocumented American "oreo". I guess I'm just not in the class of mental athletes who relish the Iron Man challenges of the really tough puzzles. I tried to do Enigmatic Variations, but by the time I had filled out the grid with words for parrot mating calls in Tagalog and technical terms from the Lex Burgundionum, substituted prime numbers for the unvoiced consonants and coloured in the blank squares to reveal a portrait of John Stuart Mill's sister, Christmas had come and gone, I had been fired for absenteeism, and my wife had left me. If Doc reads these threads, here's a lonely word of support for him.

Point taken, egill. Very few contributors here have an issue with the easier offerings, but like to be in some way entertained. This puzzle just felt a little flat.

I guess so, bobbycollins, and perhaps, even for me, this one was a wee bit on the "ten-minute teatime teaser" side. But I maintain it would have been lifted to an entirely higher plane if Doc had found room for "Curly-wurly" and "Old Jamaica".
