Haha, thanks biggus56, got the howler and spotted 8 of them. Struggling to find the clashes now.

Where have I gone wrong?

You have selected the wrong option from the clashes in several places. 4 are right in the first 6 but the rest are the wrong fgsltw.

Although enjoyably completed at the weekend - just realised I had not parsed 'burglar thinking about ...' - realise might be difficult to help without a spoiler - so only if it can be done without ... eg nudge towards where mathematician comes in ? ...

It's a clever clue, crates. Look at the word "mathematician" and also "a thematic one (i)" . . .

I have most of the thematic stuff and only a few empty cells.
I can't see 1a. I know it must have 6 letters, and how it must start.
Thanks in advance for a push. I can only think of one (plural) fruit that fits.
