I have this all done, except for the middle cell of 20, which is driving me up the wall. For a long time, I had what I felt to be a most reasonable answer for 21, despite its non-appearance in either my dictionary or online - it emerged from the clue, and just seemed right.
The theme was cleverly done, and I happened to be half-watching a relevant film of TPTV while I was doing it. So it goes.

For 20, you can look at the synonyms for "pedigree" in Chambers thesaurus, or just Google who wrote "Quarantine".

btw 21 is a standard "every other letter" clue and the answer is in both Chambers and Collins

buddy: thank you. NHO. My original answer for 21 used every other other one (sic), which I still feel is plausible, if non-existent.

I'm stuck on the 8 letter word to finish. Is it the "being", what the being does or something else please ?

Another cracking crossword from Cranberry. I found it very difficult due to both the clashes and waiting for the PDM on the transformations. Though once the theme became apparent the grid fill certainly became a lot easier.

Ok, it’s Tuesday now and I still haven’t cracked this. If anyone is still here, please can I have a hint for the method of transformation. Eg I know the 6 letter answer to 44a but assume perhaps the second half of that is replaced with a synonym for that word. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Any help welcome. Thanks in advance.

It is not a synonym for the 3 letters, You are howling rather than barking up the wrong tree.
