Thanks, that’s given me the spur to finish the grid! :)

Am I just being Mr Grumpy again or was the membership of the trios (other than the thematic element) so random as to make the end game rather a GWIT - and one more suited to people of advanced years?

JackAubrey, today's puzzle would have made ANYONE grumpy! I think it was a bit much to feature people who died decades (and decades) ago.

PS The Spectator has a new editor and a new chairman, I wouldn't complain if we got a new crossword editor.

I did raise an eyebrow at the inclusion of the men in the “P” section, so much so that I doubted whether I was even heading down the correct rabbit-hole.

I've yet to get anywhere near the right rabbit-hole. I'll go back to it later.

PS I remember Doc's 'good old days', I think that's why I get rather disheartened at times.
