Part of 6d is an anagram. I enjoyed this, definitely easier than last week. All the 4 letter ones were clever I thought.

Got all but one answer, and that is 1D. My guess (a compound word) just doesn't seem to fit the clue (though the first 5 letters may be right).

A *very* gentle hint will be welcome.

16A — did not know this word means "dined". I wonder if there is any etymological connection with the name of a famous French chef of the past.

Also, did not know the *phrase* at 11A, or anything about a "Soup Dragon" or its pals.

Aha — just gave it another go and was able to solve 1D after all.

(But while the definition is clear, I don't see how to get the answer via wordplay from the clue.)

The Soup Dragon’s friends were pink knitted aliens with Swannee whistle voices…….sweet gentle series created by the wonderful Oliver Postgate who also did Bagpuss and Noggin the Nog. Happy days.
