JackAubrey, thanks - and it's been quite entertaining really! I have managed to tie myself up in knots in some puzzles, I've managed to miss some blindingly obvious themes in some puzzles, I've gone down the wrong path in some puzzles - it's comforting to learn that I'm not the only one who can make life difficult!

I have solved this without cracking the original solution of 24 down. A push would be most welcomeπŸ˜’

Bobby, the 'article' is a single letter, the 'recording' is 2 letters, a round shiny thing, an abbreviation (though we all use it as a word). The 'state' is a verb, slightly formal (and often appears in crosswords). The last word of the clue is the definition.

Hi Bobby,

24d - single letter "article" in 2 letter "recording" then 4 letter "state" as a verb - definition is "body" (a pretty lifeless one πŸ˜‰)

Glad we could help, bobby. I had to work backwards for that one when I did the puzzle - I had most of the thematic entry first.

Thanks BC.

Malone, you must of thought you'd accidentally pressed 'post' twice πŸ˜€

Brendan, 'must of thought' and my name should never feature in the same sentence, it could lead to tears and angry words!

PS It's OK, I assumed - rightly or wrongly - that it was a typing error rather than a heinous use of English.

Thanks,Brendan. And it made me chuckle... the sentence didn't seem to belong to the same 'agonising over syllables' author!
