The clues...
Requests for help should normally include the clue itself, the number of letters in the answer and details of any you already have. Any additional information or special instructions, common in Listener puzzles, should also be included.
Hints only, please, no answers.

The theme...
Help towards the theme may be sought here. It is intended that the help will be a pointer, a nudge in the right direction - enough to assist a struggling solver, not so much that it spoils the puzzle for others. Any posts which are, even inadvertently, over-revealing, are likely to be removed.

There are many regulars on these threads, but newcomers are always welcome.

The Listener is a unique puzzle and should be treated with respect.

An interesting grid-fill (I think) but little else to grapple with. Thematic possibilities abound, so it can't be for want of material...

I'm waiting for one more great Listener before I pack it in - hope it comes before the year's out (no maths, of course).

All done, except parsing of 3D. Quite tough, I thought, but still reasonably 'do-able'. The end game was not too hard, so no 'grid-staring' required!.

I found 3d a bit like the puzzle as a whole - nothing particularly specific in it at all (maybe the 4th entry for the alt spelling will help, jbird54).

Thanks, drxx - as usual, I worked it out soon after posting!

Nice idea. Everything seems fair. Not ridiculously easy, but a bit more challenge would have been nice.
Be careful what I wish for?

I have a full grid but must have made several mistakes with the misprints. My first three words seem ok, but after that it all appears nonsensical.

All complete now - sorted out what appeared to be nonsensical - but, in fact, isn't. And, I understand the title for a change!!

I seem to have been forced to put two letters into an unchecked cell in one place - is this OK?

For the message from the corrections, I think I have the first two characters, but puzzled by the third and baffled by the fourth string of letters. Any tips?

Dylan
a) yes
b) hard without giving it away. What do the first 2 characters have in common? how would they have spoken to others?
