Just had a PDM and looked up what an open bar is. What's worse is that I arranged such a thing myself at my retirement drinks. Wake up!!! So, now got 14a and hope you have 7d. Thanks Warden.

Just back from transatlantic flight and jet lag kicking in. I tired again this morning whilst waiting at Gatwick for a connecting flight.

I have too many clues to ask about, as per usual.

I e solved 1a and a few more in bottom half, namely 21, 24a, 25a, 27a.

I feel as though I am being taunted by 5a, 9a, 10a!

9a def is medical procedures and the answer is hidden in a word in the clue

10a def is one with horn and the answer is an anagram of two words in the clue plus a 1-letter symbol for kiss

5a def is do mountain activity and the answer is a common 3-letter abbreviation for some stomach muscles plus a 3-letter homonym (not a real word) for to be unwell

5 is one of those rare (outside mountaineering, of course) words that seems to often come up in cryptics. I've encountered it enough to usually solve the clues, but it still takes thinking time.

Like many, I've found Everyman a bit of a challenge to do without help in recent months, and not always satisfying. Like last week's, this seemed more like old times, with plenty of imagination and humour, with a great mix of clue types. Sometimes the primary letters clues can encourage making a start.
