I got the cat to eat, but he really wanted me to sit down on the settee so he could sit on my lap.

Anyway, I can't believe it, but I managed to finish. But lots of answers I don't particularly like and I don't think I'll waste most of my day on a tricky crossword again.

Answer to 20d is obvious but how do you explain the first word?

Th indication for the first word is “playing”

Thank you jono I took "playing" to be the anagrind rather than the dubious "hit".

At last I have finished, confused. and exhausted. Cannot see the Nina, any hints welcomed.

Nina: Rows 7 and 9 spell out the name of a (famous?) ensemble I never heard of. UK-specific?

Rows 1 (most of?) and 15 spell out the name of a member I likewise never heard of.

Nearly gave up on this one but with a bit of help from you lot, some guesswork and trawling through dictionary, almost there.
Just the NE corner to go, hints in 6,7 and 14 would be most welcome

7. Something you would do at hanging rock without the starter, with over ( think cricket) inserted. Celebrated is definition
14 is an anagram of 6 letter word attached to 2 letter word. Def is feeling
6. Two opening letters and synonym for come to. Def is hits.
