The theme...
Help towards the theme may also be sought here. The'help' should be enough to be useful, not enough to spoil the puzzle for other solvers. Helpers should aim to give just a nudge, a pointer in the right direction. Any posts which, even inadvertently, reveal too much of the theme are likely to be removed.

The Listener is a unique puzzle and should be treated with respect.

This is going to be tricky - I've got a dozen answers , but can't put any of the across ones in for certain.
My immediate concern is 13ac- I'm sure I have the answer, but I can't see how its second letter is clued?

13a - I had exactly the same problem until I realised the definition isn't that little word and "died" is actually 2 letters:-)

Help please for 29ac and 49ac (surely an anagram?!)

12d would help, and an explanation for my middle three letters in 36 dn (assuming it's right!)

29A - definition is last word. Wordplay starts off with a word meaning 'worry'.....
49A isn't an anagram. Reverse a word to give another.
12D is a proper name.
36A uses a common expression for crackpot.

All done save for following the instruction, with regard to which I have its second 'word' as a single consonant, which appears once in the grid. Is that correct ? Also, in view of the theme, should there be some empty cells in the final grid ?
