Can’t say much about 36a without giving theme. Contains obscure word but I found it pretty easily.

Yes 14a is second definition of ferret and doesn't change after entry.

I had a problem with 36 too but simply had the incorrect final letter in 3d (That has 2 possibilities and I had the wrong one). That sorted it beautifully

Mullingar. If it is 14 that you can't parse, add an E at the end of your entry and see what you get
