I'd like to finish this. Have about two thirds of grid done and have a lot of the message. It's the SW corner that I can't conquer. As it's Thursday, can anyone help with a steer on 24d?
And elaborate on 5d. Sixpence? Maybe it's one if the jumbled?

I found SW corner tough as well.

5d is not 'sixpence', but it is jumbled and you're on the right lines.

24d - def is first two words. Word for equal followed by word for honour, with a letter each dropped.

Lumen, try equal as in a person who is your equal.

I came late to the party on finishing this week’s Listener. But I’m glad I did come. Thank you, Vainglorious; that was a corker.

Lumen, 16a. def is last 3 words. Anagram of 'tut' in 'dull' - first letter of which is extra.
24a. Def is 'in couplets'. 'Wrath' (3, extra letter) in slang 'writing' (3) + I 'put', minus last letter (curtly)

Thanks mattrom. All done now.
Very nice.
I have one crux, my jumble at 4d (sixpence..) doesn't resolve.
I've reread your post at #29 but still don't see it. I don't have an A if one is required. For pitch with 3 letters?

Lumen, Re 5d. , I had to reverse engineer this one. No A in it. Even when I had all the letters, my Android Chambers app showed no result, though the word is in Chambers - and in Bradford's under 'sixpence'. I got lucky with the Wordplays anagram finder.
