Some fiendish clues and even more fiendish misprints. The end game had me stumped for a little while until a resounding PDM arrived. I thought this to be a very clever and satisfying solve but had to parse a few clues and answers once the quotation and author revealed themselves. The parsing/cluing of 1a and 19d still elude me.
I've finished the grid, but am nonplussed as to 24d.
As for 19d - change a letter in the first word, strip down the anagram fodder by removing the given anagram. Hope that's comprehensible without giving too much away.
Still a way to go but need help with just one to proceed. Someone help? 35a: A way land use was changed for king, one naive fool in retrospect (8) the overwritten letter is R. I have R?OT?ARI.
WHAT HAVE I got wrong?

Jogamel, work backwards...One = ? (you have that)+ a three letter word for Naive, inexperienced (you have the first two letters), a slightly odd (to me) three-letter 'fool' + king, you have that...
