Some fiendish clues and even more fiendish misprints. The end game had me stumped for a little while until a resounding PDM arrived. I thought this to be a very clever and satisfying solve but had to parse a few clues and answers once the quotation and author revealed themselves. The parsing/cluing of 1a and 19d still elude me.

1a

CD becomes CU (copper)

With = W

Broken violins (six missing) = ILSON

I've finished the grid, but am nonplussed as to 24d.
As for 19d - change a letter in the first word, strip down the anagram fodder by removing the given anagram. Hope that's comprehensible without giving too much away.

19d

First word changes to Sickens as the definition.

AUSTEN + BRONTË then subtract BE AT ONE, then reorganise for TURNS

Beat me to it and admin pls remove my previous post as it may spoil an excellent puzzle from Moreton. As mentioned, the misprints are crafty.

24d is a double meaning clue

Jogamel, work backwards...One = ? (you have that)+ a three letter word for Naive, inexperienced (you have the first two letters), a slightly odd (to me) three-letter 'fool' + king, you have that...
