Ah, thank you ChrisE, Jono, I was thinking the "I" represented "one" and was trying to think of a three-letter furry creature! I'm sure you're right, Quisling - in any case, I was one of those who bought a green Clio on the strength of that ad!

All done but I am afraid I must be particularly slow on the uptake today as I don't understand the parsing of either 1d or 17d , and got the answers from a combination of the clear definitions and crossers.

1d I don't know understand at all, and 17d where does the fourth letter come from? I have something that fits with early summer and I get the English and spin bit, but where does the 4th letter come from?

Any attempts to put me out of my misery will be much appreciated!

Quocunque. Very true but in this case it refers specifically to the partner in the clue so I think we can let Imogen off.

But I might argue that the correct partner for a Papa is a Mama. And Papa is there for the "P" anyway. Is he doing double duty?

Enjoyable puzzle but trouble parsing 12a - can't see where the first 2 letters of the 3rd word come from. Help welcome.

Yes, that’s what I concluded Chris. There are five parts to that construction
