That "mistake" in 11a is unusual but I've seen it before in some barred crosswords.

18d seems to be accruing a lot of votes for COD:-)

Definitely on the easier side today but a great puzzle. Like others I got 12 and 20 first before working out the parsing. 8a was my LOI and that's because I had 1d wrong. For those coming later there is another word for a caring role that kind of fits but not quite if you consider what day Bank Holidays often fall on.

COD I liked 26a.

2d seemed strangely familiar, then I remembered why, it appeared in similar form yesterday!

very slow start - foi 23a - but then went smoothly. i also remembered 2d!
"make to" seems both odd and unnecessary in 13d
"tropical land" is only going to be parsed retrospectively, i think - there are lots to choose from!

geeker and Brendan - re 16a, I now realise that I was failing to read the clue as a whole to provide the context for the ‘partner’. Failure of imagination on my part - and yes, Brendan, it is rather witty! Thanks.

I don't know why, but after solving 16a I had a sudden urge to buy a Renault Clio 😀
