Now everyone has voted, I'll explain my clue (I was a bit surprised that no-one asked!)
The candidate who gets the most marks in the final exam in maths at Cambridge University is called the Senior Wrangler.
The candidate coming second was called the Junior Wrangler, but they stopped announcing that due to the distressing incidence of suicides....

I thought of doing a clue along those lines.

Chris. - don’t take it personally. If I think one of my clues is not readily comprehensible I will post the parse with it. Most others are now doing the same. When it comes to judging perhaps most don’t have time/ inclination to ask for an explanation so just skip it,

chris, your clue used a definition which is right there in Chambers, so no explanation was needed for me,
