The viola tunes to a low C which makes it much more akin to the cello than the violin. It must be very difficult for children to learn because of the physicality involved, not just the weight and stretch of the arm, but fingers need to be placed wider apart and pressed harder on the strings.

Lockdown interrupted her nascent piano studies, managed to get her to a teacher for year afterwards but she never regained her enthusiasm and finally refused to carry on, and I have been unable to get her interest back. Jon - are/were you a professional musician?

Aristo, are your violets a native species? I have our native (hederacea) and odorata in the garden, though I haven't used them in salads. They are certainly good colonisers.
