Time is up. Many thanks to all who entered this weekend’s Twelfth Night challenge.

There was a tie in third place between Simon@9 and Whetstone@30 on 7 votes.

Second place is Mattrom@18 with 9 votes, but the winner is PaulH @23 with eleven votes (appropriately enough for his football team…)

6-0! City hit all the right notes with this (5)

Cheers to all who entered the bonus challenge, you can put your Scrabble tiles away now. The answer was 510501 ;-)

Congratulations Paul, here are your prizes…

The viola is uniquely positioned between the violin and the cello … https://youtu.be/1vbO_foZgLQ

Some more fiddling … https://youtu.be/QAqe9iRjmbc

And Viola herself (of course) … https://youtu.be/Jg1qTs5pdeM

Cheers all,
Ttfn!

Chris, some of the viola jokes are brutal… I didn’t want to go there, but since you mentioned it…

How can you tell if a viola player is playing out of tune? The bow is moving.

What's the difference between a viola player and a dog? A dog is able to stop scratching.

What's the difference between a viola player and a pizza? A pizza can feed a family of four.

What's the difference between a viola and a coffin? Coffins have dead people on the inside.

Ouch!

Many thanks, my voters, and thanks also to jono for hosting and the prizes. Such virtuosity in all the clips, engendering uniform praise in the comments.

My children got to a good level learning violin by the Suzuki method from the age of four. The system teaches a graded repertoire by means of the pupil constantly listening to a recording between lessons, so there is no peering at sheet music and they play from the heart. One of the tunes in Book 1 is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star which can be played on open strings. Vivaldi's 'Spring' is in one of the later books.
