Bananabean - This is my first time trying to give a nudge on this forum. So apologies if it's too much or to subtle of a nudge.

I made it past this hurdle by starting at the bottom left of the grid and thinking about one of the more common methods of hiding things in completed grids.

Thanks cypherhouse, though that might be too subtle for me as I still see only gobbledygook. I’m starting to fear it may indeed be gobbledygook: clues all worked out, answers have correct order, double cells fine, grid fill resolved ambiguities and finished nicely BUT I can’t see how any of the completions of the horizontal seven-cells slot gives (square x prime)’ so I wonder if I’ve got a mistake. But it’s astonishing that the grid fill worked if that’s the case…

I don't know where to start as I do not understand "i.e. the resulting value is different from the operand(s)", as I cannot see how this can apply to clues 20 & 21 - other than that there is no operation in those clues.

Mooncow - don't forget the ' in the long answers. They are backwards.

I found a website that factorises any number into its prime factors to get those last two. Can't see how you'd do it without some sort of help like that, which is a bit disappointing given the rest was doable without even a calculator.

I also have total gobble de gook and have spent a fair amount of time grid staring to no avail. Somewhat disappointing end to a nice puzzle, so far.

Glad I could help Bananabean!

Gitto - In case you or anyone else would still like this instruction clarified (since it took me a couple of reads to parse correctly): Every mathematical operation results in something different than the parts that went into it. So A+B does not equal A or B for example.

So you are correct that this instruction doesn't apply to 20 or 21 since there is no mathematical operations in these clues.

Thanks cypherhouse. Does this mean that in AB, neither A nor B can equal 1?

Yes Umanna that is a valid deduction from this rule :)
